5 Simple Ways To Motivate Yourself Right Now

I’m not going to lie, there are days where I just don’t care and days where I do absolutely nothing all day and ask myself why did I just waste a full day doing nothing and some of you probably do the same.

Lets face it, it’s hard to be completely motivated 24/7 throughout life, there are times where were not motivated because were not seeing results in our business or we’ve dug a hole for ourselves that we just don’t know how to get out off.

However that’s a mindset that you can change for yourself every time your feeling a lack of motivation and feel like the day is going to go to waste if you don’t do something, with 5 simple steps.

#1 Start Slow

They say that half the battle is won when you open up the book, in this case we can say when we start our research for our business. So what I and other people have found to work effectively to motivate ourselves is to start slow as this will not make you feel rushed and you will work more effectively. For example by starting slowly you can give yourself small tasks just to get yourself into the gist of things and then later proceed to do your work at a more quick and efficient level. This ensures that you at least complete some tasks and will not feel like a failure if you do nothing all day.

#2 Set Yourself Goals

I know most of you have probably tried this and are straight away thinking, It doesn’t work. But that all depends on which way you’ve tried it. If you set yourself unrealistic goals then that becomes demotivating as you may feel like your never reaching them. The key is to set goals for yourself everyday, what do you want to complete and achieve today and why? write it down and start doing it. Writing realistic goals motivates you as they are within your reach each day.

#3 Don’t Fear Failure

There is no point to fear failure, have you noticed that as long as people are realistic with their expectations they can usually achieve what they need to, so wake up to the possibility of failure. The key is persistence, you have to keep at it and keep at it and if it doesn’t work after that, just move onto something else. It’s all about knowing when to keep going and when the business idea is a lost cause. We all know that there is a possibility of failure, however most of us will never make the amount of money we want if there is not some risk involved. As someone once said “The safest way to double your money is to fold it over once and put it in your pocket” which basically means keeping the money you have, as making money involves risk.

#4 What Would Don Draper Do?

The key is to have someone you look up-to and act like them, it does not matter whether it’s a successful entrepreneur you aspire to or a character of a sitcom. I am guessing you all know what I mean by ‘What would Don Draper do? now. Basically by looking up to someone you kind of adapt their personality into yours and act like them, just like how we look at how people dress. For example in my instance, I aspire to be like Don Draper from Mad Men , in the sense that I want to be even more confident, therefore when i’m not motivated or don’t want to go to networking events or get out of bed, I ask myself what would don draper do? and it motivates me to get out of bed or out of a hole that I may have been in. I’m sure that you all have people you want to be like, if not find one and it may motivate you.

#5 Remembering I’l Be Dead Soon 

This last point, is possibly the one that motivates me the most, for several reasons. Something Steve Jobs said I guess:

“Remembering that I’ll be dead soon is the most important tool I’ve ever encountered to help me make the big choices in life. Because almost everything — all external expectations, all pride, all fear of embarrassment or failure – these things just fall away in the face of death, leaving only what is truly important. Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”

You just have to think too yourself, Will this failure matter in 5-10-15 years? I want to get up and work on this great idea because I enjoy what I’m doing and I don’t want to be stuck in a 9-5 job that I don’t enjoy, rather be working 24 hours in something that motivates me everyday and that does not feel like work. Therefore the baby steps of making each day count are important in achieving the full picture.

Great post, I’l like to add that when i don’t feel motivated, I simply stop being unmotivated and start being motivated instead. True Story.

Thanks for the great post!

I think #3 and #5 are the biggest huddles that anyone has. The fear of failure and embarrassment .

Me being in a traditional chinese family makes it more difficult since all the parents only believe in getting a 9-5 jobs and climb the corporate ladders and be set for life. Thinking that you can’t do this and that………

The only thing that gets me going is to ignore all that and believe in what my heart is telling me to do.

One more thing, could you advice on the best way in getting a mentor?

Hello, thanks for your comment and I have received your email and will reply soon. In regards to the post, your right; however there’s nothing stopping individuals from doing both, for example I’m at university and currently on the path of entrepreneurship. It just means that I have two options if one of my paths fail, I always have the other to go to. The best way to find a mentor is just to start yourself and slowly you will meet more people and more people, and eventually find someone who’s been there and done that and is willing to help. Hope this has been helpful.

Thanks for the awesome comment. Trying to stay on a strict 1 day schedule for posting, but it is very hard. I am glad you are enjoying the blog, yes he’s a very good motivational speaker. Always think to yourself if he can do it. Why can’t I? It’s always good to have goals of what you are trying to achieve in business because you are always looking forward to something.
